Fire Detection Systems

Here at Protect-O-Burn, we supply, install, maintain and service a variety of conventional as well as addressable fire detection systems and equipment. Our expertise allows us to operate on all types of systems ranging from but not limited to Ziton, Technoswitch, Aritech and Kentec.

Conventional vs Addressable Systems

Conventional

In a conventional fire system on the FACP (Fire Alarm Control Panel) zones are allocated, each zone consists a pair of wires onto which between one and (+-) 30 devices can be installed.

This type of system is capable of indicating a "fire, normal or fault" condition for a zone in question.

Conventional systems are less expensive to purchase and install than addressable systems but are not programable, and fault finding on these systems is allot more difficult and labor intensive.

Addressable

An addressable system consists of between one to eight sets of wires that run in a loop configuration from and to the FACP.

Between 1 to 126 devices can be connected on each loop in an addressable system, once the devices are connected the control panel will constantly probe them for information regarding the type of devices, the device status and condition.

Each device has an address that is indicated on the control panel which allows you to identify faults specific to the device and not an entire zone as with a conventional system, this makes fault finding a lot easier and less labor intensive.

The addressable FACP is also programmable and can therefore perform logic functions based on input conditions, making it a more "intelligent" system than the conventional.
